Pieta House is Ireland's first community based centre for the intervention and prevention of self-harm or suicide. Founded in 2006 by Joan Freeman, a qualified psychologist, Pieta House provides one to one therapeutic support completely free of charge. Our primary aim is to provide a barrier free service to those experiencing suicidal thoughts or engaging in self-harm who felt they had nowhere to turn.
Our mission is threefold:
1) To reduce the number of deaths by suicide
2) To reduce the number of people engaging in self-harming behaviours
3) To break down the stigma associated with suicide and self-harm
Over 8 years later and with more than 14,000 people having passed through our doors across nine centres nationwide we are getting closer to our vision of making this unique service available to everyone accross ireland within a 100km radius.
Pieta House West is located on Bishop Street in Tuam where a team of therapists provide face to face counselling to individuals as well as family support. Clients can self refer into the service in confidence by contacting 093 25586, meaning a GP or psychiatric referral is not required.
