Shore Farm Pony Therapy is based in the scenic location overlooking Killala Bay with access to the shoreline for horse and rider. This centre is the only Therapeutic Riding Centre in County Mayo. The facilities include a sand arena, stable yard and sensory trail, providing fantastic opportunities to expose riders to a rich variety of sensory experiences.
Shore Farm Pony therapy caters for children with emotional, physical or cognitive disabilities between the ages of 4-12. A Therapeutic riding session is a healthy and fun activity that gently challenges the rider and rewards them with a sense of achievement and freedom. A roller and pad are used for the rider to sit on, this allows the rider to get an enriched sensory and physical experience. The horse’s movement mimics and helps to develop the movement of walking for the rider. This promotes strength, balance, coordination, flexibility and confidence for rider.
Therapeutic riding sessions are individualised and designed to encourage participation and the development of individual abilities, with specific goals designed for each rider.Therapeutic riding offers many benefits including emotional, social and physical, leading to greater awareness and self-confidence for people with special needs.
