Cluíd’s core work is the provision of ‘general needs’ housing that is, housing for people with low incomes. It also provides ‘special needs’ housing, that is, housing for people with a particular need in addition to a housing need. This may include for example elderly people or people with disabilities.

Tenants are drawn from the waiting list of the local authority in whose area housing is being provided. Different sized households are accommodated as well as households at different stages from young to elderly. The association aims to create mixed, sustainable communities where each household feels at home and where each has a contribution to make to the community.

COPE Galway Fairgeen Hostel provides emergency accommodation and a range of support services for men experiencing homelessness at our Forster Street hostel in Galway City. 

The hostel provides accommodation and services for the residents. 

The services include meals, access to washing and laundry facilities, keyworking, access to weekly accommodation clinic, medical and addiction services for residents, meals for non-residents by referral and we work with COPE Galway resettlement service and other agencies to help source appropriate and secure accommodation for men.

We use a harm reduction approach in the service, to ensure that we can provide the best service we can to the varying needs of those experiencing homelessness.

COPE Galway Osterley Lodge is an emergency homeless service for women, located in Lower Salthill Galway. Emergency short-term accommodation and support services are proivded for up to 12 women. A family room is available for women with children. Self-referrals and referrals from other agencies are accepted. Referrals to Osterley Lodge can be made by phone or in person at the service. Opening hours are 24 hours/7 days a week.

Services available include Keyworking and care planning, assistance with entitlements and accessing services, access to GP, Nurse and Addiction support, meals & laundry as well as support in finding secure accommodation.

The Day Centre for homeless people at Westside House, Seamus Quirke Road, Galway provides a range of services for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in Galway City. 

Services provided include housing information, food and refreshments, personal care, laundry, clothes exchange, out of hours service, homeless referral service and family support services.
In addition to the provision of the above services, the Day Centre also provides service users with access to the following support services:
Substance Misuse Worker, Public Health Nurse, Community Mental Health Nurse, Clinical Services, Family Support Services, Tenancy Sustainment and Resettlement and Conferencing, Meetings, Assessments etc.

The day centre is open Monday –Friday 8.30am -4.00pm and Saturday 8.30am -2.00pm. An Out of Hours referral service is available on 091 525259 (freephone from landline only on 1800 788887) –this service operates 7pm -11pm Monday –Sunday.

We offer the services in the area of homelessness prevention, housing and health & wellbeing to people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in Galway. These services include:

Homelessness Prevention

Community Support
Our Community Support service works with men, women and families to prevent them from becoming homeless. They do this by helping people remain in their own home or to find a new home, and to continue to live as part of their local community. The team works closely with people to provide advice, support and practical assistance and they help people to access other services.

Ballinasloe Resource Centre
Our Resource Centre in Ballinasloe provides a drop in service that offers people advice and practical support with a variety of issues including personal challenges, addiction and health issues.


Moving On
This service works with men who want to move on to a more independent lifestyle in their own home. We work together with them to help develop the necessary skills to move on from our services and create links to supports that prevent re-entry into homeless services. This service is staffed 24 hours a day and provides a home for up to 10 men at any time.

Independent Living
We have several apartments which give people the opportunity to live independently within the community. This housing option is provided to people who do not require support to live on their own. These individual apartments, located throughout Galway City, provide a home to 11 people at any one time. 

Community Housing
This service has several houses and small apartments located throughout Galway City which give people the opportunity to work towards living independently again in the future. The service provides a shared housing solution with access to staff support on a regular basis.  At any one time, this service provides a home for up to 27 people.

Long Term Housing
This service is for people who have multiple needs, have a history of regular contact with homeless services or require support to live independently. This service is made up of 4 houses which cater to single men and women. Issues of addiction and mental and physical health are dealt with by our staff and specialist services. Each house is staffed 24 hours a day and together, they provide a home for up to 25 men and women at any time.

Youth Homeless Service
This service works with young adults, aged 18-25, to support them in accessing opportunities in education and employment, as well as to enhance their independent living skills. The service has a number of apartments, allowing people to live independently with access to staff support. 

Health and Wellbeing

Health and Wellbeing Team
We have a team which provides specialist support to people in areas including physical and mental health, addiction, life skills and access to training, education and employment.  Our team consists of a Registered General Nurse, an Occupational Therapist and 2 Addiction Counsellors.

Threshold provides information, advice and advocacy services to tenants in private rented, local authority and social housing. The service is free and confidential.

Threshold’s Advice and Tenancy Protection Service can provide advice to tenants on such issues including:

• Tenant’s Rights and Obligations
• Termination of Tenancies
• Rent Increases & Rent Reviews
• Leases and Letting Agreements
• Standards and Repairs
• Deposit Retention
• Support with applications for social housing
• Illegal Evictions
• Rent Supplement
• Housing Assistance Payment
• Discrimination Issues in rented accommodation
• Accessing the Local Authority housing waiting list

We also advocate on behalf of tenants with landlords, letting agents and statutory agencies such as the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection (DEASP) and Local Authorities and can assist tenants in taking cases to the Residential Tenancies Board (RTB).
