Roscommon Sports Partnership

The Local Sports Partnership Initiative was developed by Sport Ireland in order to create a national structure to co-ordinate and promote the development of sport and physical activity at local level. The initiative was created following widespread consultation with other agencies and organisations with an interest in the development of sport.

The Local Sports Partnerships have also been supported by the Social Partners through commitments in the Programme for Prosperity and Fairness. The Roscommon Sports Partnership was one of the first Sports Partnership with it’s establishment in 2002.

Objectives:
Enhanced planning of sport at local level.
Increased levels of local participation, especially amongst specific target groups such as older people, girls and women, people with disabilities, unemployed people and those who live in identified disadvantaged communities.
Enhanced local coach deployment.
Club development.
Volunteer training.
Local directories of sports bodies and facilities.
Better use of existing facilities.
Clear priorities for local facility provision and improvement, with related quality management initiatives.
School/club/community and possibly school-NGB links.
Local sports event.
